‘Being Nala’ …and How ‘Being You’ Could Change Your Life Forever

‘Being Nala’ …and How ‘Being You’ Could Change Your Life Forever

I didn’t know dogs could have epilepsy—until about six months ago.

Nala, one of our cocker spaniels pictured above, had a seizure completely out of the blue just before Christmas 2024. It was awful to witness. Her body went rigid, she jerked uncontrollably, frothed at the mouth, and lost control of her bowels. It probably lasted two or three minutes, but it felt like forever.

Afterwards, she tried to walk, then gave up and lay down, dazed. For 20–30 minutes, there was no sign of recognition in her eyes. Then, suddenly, she was back—pacing the room with the energy of a dog on steroids. An hour later, she settled.

And just like that, she went back to being Nala—eating (her favourite), sleeping, walking, barking at the postman, and staying close to me or Jules. As I write this, she’s lying at my feet, head resting on my right foot.

She had many seizures over the following two months. We were in and out of the vet, trying to figure it out. Eventually, through a combination of medication and diet change, things settled… until last Friday. Four consecutive nights of seizures. Three vet visits this week. She’s doing better now.

Below is a photo of Nala with her big brother Milo.

But this isn’t a story about seizures. It’s a story about being.

What amazes me is how, once the seizure passes, Nala just gets on with life. No fear. No overthinking. No spiralling. She just gets back to being Nala. Whether it’s getting poked and prodded by vets or going for a walk, she stays fully herself. And people adore her for it.

It’s like she trusts that being herself is enough—and that’s all she needs to do.

Of course, she’s a dog. She doesn’t have the luxury of overthinking. But I do. I can worry, spiral, self-diagnose, stay up at night, and become a victim of my circumstances—many of which I can’t control either.

Nala reminds me that being me might just be the most powerful choice I can make, no matter what life throws at me.

I’ve spent years processing, overthinking, waiting for time to heal, wrestling with unwanted emotions. Looking back, most of that energy was wasted. All I really needed was to be me.

That’s become easier as I’ve developed a clearer understanding of who I really am. My document has helped massively with that. It reminds me of the man I am and the man I’m here to be. (If you’re curious, click here to learn more.)

It’s also become easier as I’ve opened up to the truth that I am enough. I’m not broken, not lacking, not in need of fixing. And neither are you.

What if you’re already enough?

What if everything you need to cope with life and create what you want is already inside you?

What if the most powerful thing you could do is to truly be yourself?

This is what I’m working on, daily. And it’s what I work on with most of my clients.

If you’re tired of battling… if you’re running on empty or edging toward burnout… if you want to connect with the powerful creator inside you—get in touch. I may be able to help.

Much love,

Peter
